bukit tinggi trip

cheche and me decided to bring mom to bkt tinggi as a birthday gift trip. we booked the 2d1n package which costs rm138 pp. we stayed in colmar tropicale, a french-themed resort which is in the village itself. besides the name and some not so facsinating french facade, nothing much frenchie i assure you. they have pasta shop but that's italian. ok. a bakery but i cant find even one authentic french dish on the menu. we ended up eating in the japanese restaurant nestled in the botanical garden. the tables were dusty and some dead insects lying about. food was not so good and price quite high. we still enjoy it la. it's the company and the weather was nice. the japanese garden is small but clean and fresh. again. not much japanese about it. mom enjoyed looking, touching and feeding the japanese carps in the pond. tip : bring some fish food. they were selling a small wee pack for rm1.
the weather was cooling and it rained in the evening. due to the heavy rain, our room's windows leaked and we had to change room. the second room was huge! unfortunately it leaked too but not as bad as the previous room. later we had to wait for nearly an hour for them to fix the hot shower. after settling down n cleaning up we headed down for the buffet dinner. it was quite a disappointment. food was rather bland, bbq chicken looks more like charchoal pieces and the service - bad. we didnt spend much time outside after dinner as it was still raining. so we headed back to the room to retire for the nite. it was still raining next morning but cleared just before breakfast - which was so so. after breakfast we invaded the rabbit park which was rather pathetic. there were a few sick rabbits left untreated in the corner. all in all, the trip was ok but be prepared to entertain yourselves as there is nothing much to do.

かみちゅ!

at last anime is shown in malaysia without the irritating bm dubbed voices. "tooooonggkaaat saktiiiii" in very high pitched irritating voice... ha ha ha. of all my current fave is definitely kamichu! / かみちゅ!
it is light-hearted and entertaining. bountiful of kawaii-ness without being overly silly. great colour and excellent graphics. winner of the Excellence Award at the Japan Media Arts Festival 2005 said it all. it's almost like spirited away minus the creeps and angst. every turn there are some little surprises and imaginative charaters. highly recommend to catch this anime. かみちゅ! http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=5356

yes. this month is not my lucky month... it was just like any other fridays except for a dramatic acrobatic act : tripped-flew-fell which i ended up with a fractured arm. so embarassing!! felt so touched as my work mates rushed to help me up especially bridget.

my handsome boy

at last. vodka! got his first shot. i was so anxious as previously brandy succumbed to the vaccinated and was afraid history repeats. according to vet, it's a case of 1 in 1000. :( i guess brandy was really unlucky.
he was praised so much by the vet. even called him handsome boy! ha ha. but what a shocked he had when the needle pricked him. well, he was a good boy. just yelped once :) and confirmed he is a giant puppy. he weighed 7.3 kg!! nearly as heavy as bronte (which was around 9kg).
got him a puffer like ball with a squeeky whistle when pressed. fun to see him start playing with it. at first he was taken aback with the spikes ... then when he know how to bite it, it was a squeeking fun time. he even know how to make different squeeks now :P

favourite cendol haunt

love the cendol here. the owners are also friendly chaps. those who wants to try nyonya laksa should stop by this shop too as they have varieties of laksa and tasty too. i used to makan this auntie laksa when i was young where her shop was nearby my ah-ma house. after laksa, you can wash down the spicy food with the deliciously real gula melaka laced cendol. they have a bottle of gula melaka that you can top up if u fancy. i always did. very sweet tooth i have. they also have some nyonya kuehs which is worth trying. the shop itself is a delight. little treasures in every corner.
tip : go early as parking is hard to get. take a leisure walk between the narrow streets. it's a pleasure especially for first timers in malacca.

a-ma scorecard : 8-0!

bo ta po pheng you?

i'm so looking forward to balik kampung and especially for my granny 80th birthday bash tomorrow. however this could also mean one thing - facing the wrath of all my grand-aunties,grand-uncles, aunties and uncles snoopy behaviours.
these will be some of the questions coming my way :
"ta po pheng you ler?"
"bo ta po pheng you ar?"
"ge be oo ta po pheng you ar?
"kan chew beh?"
then some bolder relatives will tease my patience :
"ti si ai kah win ar?"
"ti si ai chia wa chiak chew?"
and the worst :
"ti si li lau bu eh sai po xun?????"
tao tia. pengsan.

please do not PANIC!!

ha ha. sorry. but i cant help myself by putting that title. yea. we had safety and security exercise, cymex 1 today. it's some emergency evacuation drill in case of some disasters e.g. terrorist attacks, fire, etc. personally i find it is a great drill.
however ... does the government need to spend the citizen tax $$$ by having a launch for this exercise?? i mean amazing! daily we were told to economised electricity, water, fuel, whatever. and here we have an emergency drill with all the pomp & pageantry & dignitaries to launch it in mdec. haiz.
anyway, back to the drill at my company. at first it was fun and loud- siren and all. thank goodness for the tents else we will be rentung in the hot sun. hey! they even distributed mineral water to us. hmm.. is there where our lavish ad&d budget has gone to? .... then we were left stranded there for more than one hour! i mean. it's just a drill. do it and get over it. haiz.
in my opinion. although drills are exellent way to prepare us, i still think without discipline, when disaster strikes, pandemonium will break loose! come on. we are malaysian. we are individualistics. "me first!" ha ha. so u think the fire marshalls will wait for all the staff to line up like good gals and boys? hey no offence fire marshalls.
my point is. drills are ok but more need to be done for minimum casualties in any emergency evacuations.

dhl boat race 2006

well the turn out wasnt as many as expected but we still had fun. everyone was anxious and worried that sakti would not turn up with our free tees. he did and so did our orange tees.
i did the double kayak with phooi2 but the dragon boat was cancelled due to the burning weather. darn, i was looking forward to show off my drumming skills. ha ha ha. anyway, i was rather impressed with one of quad scull team. their synchronisation was almost perfect. lunch was simple and nice. it ended with a happy surprised. each of us was given a rm50 parkson voucher. aaa. shopping again...

... vodka! @ 2 months old ...
mom called a while ago... my little vodka! knows how to fetch and beg to play. he reminded me so much of bronte who loves to fetch the doggie- her beanie and drop it in front of us to ask us to throw for her to fetch. aaa.. missed her so much. missed vodka! so much also. he is in mcca at the moment. cant wait to see him in 2 weeks time. guess he would have grown a lot by then.

it's 3-0!!!!

no. it's not a footie score but the number of years i've been on earth. it started rather slowly but as the day progressed i kept receiving sms wishes. aaa. it's the greatest gift when frens n family remembers your big day. and i am that lucky - fong, gapi and tassa planned to celebrate with me by going to the crowne princess buy 1 get 1 free buffet promo. what a shock! they actually have a quota on how many customers per day. sad. such silly limitation for a reputable hotel.
so we ended up @ shogun. it was a fabulous, delicious, fun and happy dinner! gapi picked me up from my place and the traffic there was mild and we managed to reached 1915. tassa reached 1u as we were entering shogun. told here we will wait inside for her. within 10 minutes, fong arrived in a sexy, plunging, green polka top. aaa. like the phrase, if you got it, baby, flaunt it. but being modest fong, she placed her black cardigan stragetically covering her assets :) which didnt stop her attracting attentions e.g. ah-pek trying to explain some japanese dishes. ha ha
eh? nearly 20 mins after tassa call, she was still missing. thanks goodness i called her! being a blur sotong as usual, she was sitting outside shogun waiting for us! ha ha. n i tot she had sidetracked - shopping! well, that was not the end of her blurness.
tassa: hey, i just saw a guy eating a spoonful of wasabi
(fong a little perplexed, gapi a little shocked)
me: really? well maybe he really loves wasabi or wanna get a kick out of it?
tassa: no. no. he has a bowlful of the green stuff!
me&fong: ha ha ha. it's some green tea or mint ice cream la.

laughters all around .... ha ha. yea that's how blur she can get n it's one of the reasons we love her!
glad that they enjoyed the buffet as much as i enjoyed it. gapi might be small in size as per namesake, she can packed quite a bit.
after the eat-until-on-the-brink-of-bursting, we had a great workout - quest to find fong's car! ha ha. man were glad we found it besides burning a few spoonfuls of sin.
tassa, fong and gapi! thanks for a memorable nite out. thanks for the pressies! most of all - THANKS FOR BEING MY BUDDIES!

vodka!

i read from a site mentioning that the name you choose will reflect as much about you as it does about your dog. it shows how you view your dog and your relationship with it. ha ha. so VODKA! he shall be.
yes! i've got a new pup. he is a terrier mix. doesnt really cos a bomb as a neighbour sold it to me. brought him back to kl yesterday. he was kind of timid at first but this morning he had evolved into somewhat a rascal! mom just called part complaining part loving him. she just bathed vodka! and let him loose in the house. of all places, he chose the best place to flop down... on the tilam! :)
well at least, i can be a little relieved as bronte seems to take vodka! in slowly. yes, she is still the haughty self. looks like bronte is accepting vodka! into her life although she is avoiding him like the plague at the moment. ha ha.

brontë oh brontë

peace. at last i managed to persuade my mom to forgive me. it must be my persistent charms. ha ha. i can be if i want to you know. but i guess not many ppl will be that lucky to get charmed by moi. ha ha. anyway, i've stashed my idea for moving out. mom's condition is quite bad - her slip disc. moving out will only make her feel worse, so since make peace pact d, i'll just hang around until she's stronger.
visited brontë's vet to get more clarifications on the x-ray results. bad. it's not stone in the bladder. the x-ray showed there's a growth near her uninary tract. vet ruled out stone. but was not a good news as it could be either a blood clot or tumor. wouldn’t be able to know until they operated on her. so we decided to go along the conservative solution by the vet – put her on a strict special diet which consists of some special doggie biscuits. hopefully in 2-3 months time, if it's a clot, then it will disolved smaller and eventually disappear. poor brontë, she never liked doggie biscuits. poor mom, she had to crush the biscuits mix it with water & hand feed brontë. we have to monitor her urination pattern also. as long as she make a big puddle a day, then is ok. as this means her tract isnt blocked (meaning the growth didnt increase, meaning is not a tumor). let's pray n hope it's just a clot. cos if it's a tumor, i'm going to loose my poochie! as the tumor is too near her nerves and is not advisable to operate to remove. poor poor brontë. cant bear the thoughts of losing her. have to spent all my time at home sayanging her. no time to waste.

that's what friends are for

[listening to : 그남자 그여자 by vibe]
aaa. thank god for friends. they are always there when u needed them most. just came back from mamak with shane. 1/2 my burden cleared and am ready to face the morning with gusto. first thing to apologize for the 1000th time to my ma even though not my fault. small sacrifices. and hopefully this time she will listen and let me bring her to the doctor.
and yea! now i can find my way into kelana jaya. always thought i will get lost in the maze. well, finding shane's place in tmn megah was ok. it was actually quite a breeze considering me driving nite time. u know la, being a little "nite blindness" is quite a nuisance n risky driving in the nite especially eyes swollen. house 54. so yea! now i know where else to crash shane's place.
anyway, what a blast! germany scored 3-0 against ecuador. too bad ecuador had to lose so badly but happy for them to qualify to the next round. so far all my 3 fave teams, protugal, mexico and spain are on the track to qualify to the next round. hurrah! forta portugal!
now on a more sombre note. i have to seriously contemplate moving out soon. first step to create some space for myself. i guess it's time to be selfish for once. too much giving is unhealthy. fong already got a place for me in her apartment in damansara perdana. it's not too bad but have to travel a bit. now i have to plan carefully. hmm... i prefer puchong but kinda lazy to look around now. somemore her place got all the amenities i wanted : gym, pool, tennis court. rental also within my budget. i think in this state i shouldnt make rash decision on getting a place on my one. like shane's advice "rash financial decision is risky". well, i'll sleep on this, at least for now.

wedding gathering

wedding is a great place to meet up with mates that you have lost contact over the years. i'm glad i was so determined to attend shookfurnn's wedding even it meant i had to drive there myself. the journey there was actually quite pleasant. ha ha. now i know 2 more places 2 hang out. first the new jusco and second - south city.
at the entrance there's pk and jin. hmm i think jin did something to his hair isit? the bride was radiant n sweet in pink. after congratulating her, i bumped into many of my collegemates which i have not met for years since graduation. it was a happy reunion but hmm i think i am a little bit behind in terms of baby producing... hmm. sharon's 4 month old babe, joshua is sooo cute. he even let me cuddle him. aaa. vincent (no no not the one i dreamt) also has a baby girl. shocked. then there's belinda. aha! she came alone. so i tot i can find a gal in my shoes. so i turn to her and jokingly asked. "hey belinda, so how many you have?" ha ha. i nearly fall off my chair when she nonchalantly answered "two". ha ha ha. sharon was laughing at me. "wrong person to ask. she has the most at the moment". ha ha. and finally i get to meet sin's wife. n guess what. yea, she is 8 months preggy. i think i need some catching up with these fellas. i need to contribute to msia's population. hmm. i need to go on a rampant prowl.... for victims... ha ha. anyway, the dinner started rather late at 2115 for restaurant wedding. food was ok. but again sharkfins' soup can be mistaken for sharkfins' goo. jo was in quite late and it was a joy meeting up with her. last met her @ her wedding. tatlung is still same old same old. she was late as she was doing a shoot with carmen soo! yea. carmen soo! she is so beautiful.... jo is now freelancing as makeup artist. u go girl! really had a great fun time at the wedding and laughing all nite with jo.

depressed, desperate, determination & dreams

haha. it's not as serious as the title sounded. it's just me being melodramatic.
perhaps it was the frigid aircondition n rain but never felt so melancholy for quite a spell like yesterday. perhaps it's pms. perhaps it's the age catching up and lack of sex? erm. not true. not lack of it. it's totally missing - the sex chapter in my life.
i was desperate to chat with someone. called tassa. she's shopping. called vonn. she suggested that i was moody due to the toyboy thing? na la! told her maybe i need a sex partner. ha ha. she said as if i need sex 24x7. whoa! i mean who says i need it 24x7. just need him to be on standby 24x7. reachable within a phone call? urgh! then noticed that all the while she chatting with me, her hubby was driving beside her. omfg. i mean if u know me. u know i was trashing. else, i would have sounded like a mega sex slut? hmm.
suppose to go out with shane which she cancelled later - in return she promised me a cheesecake treat. yea!! so i pattered around the house taking note what to clean up on sunday. weighed myself. yea! confirm shed another kilo to total of 4 kilos since 1May. mood liven up tremendously.
tassa called. aa. had a great nice chat. she just finished some papers on monday and was disorientated due to the stress. shared some weight losing ideas. she was shocked when i told her my initial weight. "are u sure? the sofia foo we know?". ha ha. i was not surprised. a lot of ppl had the same reaction when i revealed it. i can qualify for the super heavy weight category, i guess. she thought of marie france. i thought it is too expensive. well we agreed on exercising part and determination. i felt in these 3 weeks, i was pretty determined. forced myself to wake up and dragged myself to the gym. although i only spend max 30 minutes of brisk walk, i guess is a good start. plus i sweat, er.. perspired (i can nearly hear Ms Lim's voice admonishing us - "Sweating is for horses, human perspires"). with all this perspiring, it somehow makes me more awake and alert at work. hope to stay this way. er. ok tassa. WILL stay this way.
goal!! 6th min, argentina already scored a goal. hmm should have placed a bet. i cannot ignore the deep rumbling sound which i pretended it wasn't there. it was my tummy la. whip up a quick spicy fusion mamak-italian pasta goreng. damn the carbs. then it was goal goal goal goal and 90th minute another goal. goals galore. argentina whose team is younger made Serbia and Montenegro looks like kids in the pitch.
then i had weird dreams. (hey! not wet ok) i dreamt about vincent. vincent?! why him?! i've been pondering for quite sometime now. but cant really relate any thing current with him. weird. but he was kinda cool in my dream. like i said it. it was a dream. hee hee it was actually quite a nice dream. hmm.

korean nite out

yes! world cup fever is finally here. didn't manage to catch the opening ceremony as i was having dinner with leng and team mates at hmm... was it mont kiara or sri hartamas. anyway the korean restaurant is very near to souled out. food so so. service so so. company - some of them was funny. perhaps cos there some of us there couldnt take beef, so it was chicken n pork only. well dashed was my anticipation for some good bbq beef. i remembered we had great beef bbq which they rolled out onto the hot grill- that was my first time having korean food @ ampang. the bbq was great that time. others was er forgettable. cos none of us really know how to order. however, this time around, kel vin, leng's sa is familiar with korean n stuff and thank goodness for that food was ok and we didnt go overboard. (previously with my team, we ordered so much that we had so much left over.) i particularly like the soju. it tastes sweet and reminds me of tapai. well unlike what swee told me. she said it tastes like kerosene when she had some in korea. ha ha ha. perhaps it's a different type? anyway, the soju we had, was some mixture of soju with "pat nin chao"? too bad i had to drive later so i didnt drink as much as i wanted. you know me la. drink like a fish. ha ha ha.

the food? hmm. the side dishes were ok. except for the kimchi and a spicy anchovies dish, others tasted a little bland. seaweed stuff was minimal, nearly non-existance. all these side dishes are refillable. then came a piping hot steam egg. it looks like cawan mushi but it taste better. er. i am not a great fan of cawan mushi or any other steam eggs that were steam to smooth perfection. weird, eh? i love those little pork-marked steam eggs with loads of pork at the bottom. mom's style's the best! :) fyi, to get smoother less pork-marked steam eggs, use lowest gas mark so it wont boil excessively creating bubble causing the marks. the egg pancake with vege was so so. leng was a tad disappointed as she was expecting seafood egg pancake like those she had when she was in korea. ha ha. i find the corn+ham with mayo in the hotplate - tit pan, interesting. i always tot mayo served hot is a no no but it tasted hmm special. plan to do something similar soon.
like i said the bbq was nothing special. the marinade was normal. but i like the spicy noodles with the cuttlefish or is it octopus? ha ha perhaps i am being bias. i love sotong. whatever has sotong in it i'll love itl. then we had some spicy seafood noodles. hmm. the stock taste like the korean instant noodles that swen n me cant live without. the seafood added flavors to the soup. i ate 1/4 crab but was not it a crabbie mood. ha ha ha. u know la. first dinner with leng's mates, must give good impression, so my table manners were too emaculate to dig into crabs. ha ha ha. yea. for those who know. there were other reasons too :P anyway the osyters or "oo" in hokkien were the tiniest ones. i only had one and it's 1/2 the size of my pinky. the last 2 bowls of noodles were quite delicious. one was a spicy soup with tofu and another was kimchi noodle soup.
halfway thru the dinner, we have intensive cantonese lesson led by chee kin. the most usable phrase "hai mg hai". it was hilarious. everyone trying to use the phrase with different situations. all in all it was a enjoyable nite out with new friends.
ps : thanks to tiong for the photos.

hair-raiser!

ok. so cheap-er hair cut doesnt suit anyone. anyway, the story is, i decided to try out the hair saloon that fong had her hair done previously. i mean the guy did a good cut for her. so i thought "eh, why not. can save $". i showed the lady my the photo - tu, that one i just had my hair re-styled, me in pink-tee. so she nodded and said ok. she kept on trimming n layering n kept mumbling "your hair is so thick!". i should have taken some action but i just sat there until i told her - enough lo. then - URGHH! it was totally different from my original cut (i just need trimming) and she began spraying my hair. i was shocked as she was using those cheap hair-spray that my granny uses (i'm sorry if i offended you, ah-Ma). i was ok at first ... felt a little light headed... and fong reassured me it is ok. quite nice actually - she commented. but then when i reached home... i was horrified as i washed the spray off my head. i never felt so bald. yes it was that thin she layered! so it was sayonara crowning glory. well the lesson of this story is - stick with your hairstylist else it is going to be funkie to auntie rm18 is certainly a very cheap "expensive" lesson for my mane n me.
fyi- photo is hair after 2 weeks. well it took me that long to finally decide to post this...
ps: fong. thanks for that day advise and i am still working very hard to save every penny to realise the dream we discussed even it meant sacrificing some. and no, i dont blame you for this whole hair-raising episode. i was game for it.
pps: thanks vonn for consoling me saying it was ok ... ahem. still awaiting the free meal...

peter & tina

i've known tina since std3 and gone thru the same schools until form6. although we met up during cny gatherings, etc, we lost contact for a stretch during our uni/college year. coincidence brought our friendship back on track as one of my housemates was her coursemate in UM. i was then introduced to peter and another friendship bonded. well, then the fun began. hee hee i have to admit, most time i was like the biggest "spotlight". hmm or is tina the "spotlight". i don't know... i mean if you are one of the IJ gang, you would know the complicated "relationships". and peter was (or still is) in all the "spotlights" (chantal, prem, etc).
we were estatic when they got married on Jan 2004. we tried our best to dress as nyonya as possible. i even tailor-made my first nyonya kebaya. expensive it might be but it was worth every $. the church wedding was so touching. sniff sniff. being an emotional freak, happy tears trickled as she sashayed down the aisle into peter's arms. gapi swooned too. hee hee. not only by the intense feeling but heat too. she was pregnant that time. dinner was another blast. old and young all in kebayas. it was spectacular! we even had supper @ mamak in our kebayas. n guess what? the bride was with us too. :)
~kean xavier ONG~
12:45 18 may 2006 : another bundle of joy arrived in form of baby boy kean xavier ONG into the lives of two of my dearest friends peter and tina. i've yet to visit her. hopefully soon and snap some cute photos to post here.

おいしい

info extract from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:
Shogun (将軍, shōgun?) is a military rank and historical title in Japan. The rank is equivalent to "general," a high officer in an army. As a title, it is the short form of sei-i taishōgun (征夷大将軍). The Imperial Court in Kyoto awarded this title first to the leaders of military expeditions against warlike peoples, and later to the heads of military governments at many times in the history of Japan.

well i thought it will be nice to give some intro on the word shogun. i was first introduced to shogun when i was barely a teenager. my family was practically hooked on james clavell's shogun, acted by richard chamberlain who was quite a looker there.

anyway. my team was treated to a long awaited dinner. we decided to try shogun @ 1u. dont ask me why shogun for a makan place. price for dinner on weekdays is rm48++. i read somewhere that this is saisaki branch but i prefer the spread here. but there were no sukiyaki here. the choices are quite huge making it ideal for group makan. the sashimi although not many choices, was fresh. normal salmon, tuna and another white meat fish. lack of labelling is one of the downside. i was a little disappointed as there were no grilled unagi or shashimos. only those sushi unagis. the sauce was missing when they refilled them. A few of us were also disappointed as pickled idako was also missing from the spread. i recommend the deep fried black sesame coated baby eel. a very tasty crunch. the tempura softshell crab was delicious too. true to some comments posted online by some past patron, the "complimentary" bake osyter was a let down. it was not fresh and the cream has no flavor at all. one per person. one of us remarked that it is one per person so it won't poison us being so "unfresh". hee hee. i had three. the dessert counter was a delight! my fave = syrup filled mini waffles. i have to confess, i actually hid some in my bags. you should have seen the antics fieni and me went thru to "steal" them. All in all, it was a good for value and ambiance is good too. it's in 1u, so go for a walk halfway, walk those fats off, and then tuck in more.
